Inspired by the stories of how Takamatsu fought in China and Japan. John gains interest in testing his skill in competitive combat. While at a Tai Kai (seminar), he asks if he could represent Tai-Jutsu in freestyle competition but Bujinkan rules permits no competition. 1994 - After experiencing the realty of anything goes, John realizes the need for developing his grappling skills, and goes into deep study of any and all grappling systems such as Brazilian (Gracie) Jiu-jitsu, Kozen Judo, Sombo (Russian Jiu-jitsu), Catch Wrestling, Shooto (Japanese Grappling), Pankration (Greek boxing and ...
